Jefferson Hills, PA – October 29, 2025— On November 10 at 7 p.m., Thomas Jefferson High School will host the “From a Distance” event featuring Donna Groom of The Skyliners, a special community celebration honoring local veterans and supporting the mission of Life Changing Service Dogs For Veterans.
That evening, the Thomas Jefferson High School Choir and Band, along with Donna Groom, will take the stage to perform the program “From a Distance.” In this program, she presents real letters sent from soldiers to their families or letters written by families to those serving in the military, accompanied by music from that era. These letters span the period from the Civil War to Afghanistan.
Thomas Jefferson High School students are leading the organization and promotion of the event. Life Changing Service Dogs For Veterans is working with the school’s Public Relations class, taught by Lauren Kaszoni, where the students are creating poster ads, soliciting businesses, and selling rubber bracelets.
Students have also incorporated the mission into school events such as football games, the homecoming carnival, and online campaigns to raise awareness. Their goal is to raise $27,000 to go toward the cost of a service dog.
All proceeds from ticket sales, raffles, and donations will directly benefit Life Changing Service Dogs For Veterans, supporting the placement and training of service dogs for those who have served. The net proceeds from all Life Changing Service Dogs For Veterans merchandise sales will go toward the students’ goal.
Tickets are priced at $22 for adults. “We’re going with that price because on the back of our t-shirts for Life Changing Service Dogs for Veterans, there’s a 22. The 22 symbolizes that there are 22, and it is likely more, veterans a day who commit suicide. Anyone who has received a medical service dog through Life Changing Service Dogs for Veterans has not committed suicide. They’re definitely life-saving dogs,” said Sue Startari of Life Changing Service Dogs for Veterans.
Student tickets are available for $11. Tickets can be purchased in advance through https://tjhs.ludus.com. A limited number of tickets may also be available at the door on the day of the event.
